The Toyota Yaris was launched in the market as the replacement model for Toyota Echo nameplate. As for the 2008-year model, Yaris is available in two different body styles, such as Liftback and Sedan. One can find excellent contemporary exterior styling and an upscale interior cabin in all the current Yaris models. Toyota Motors Company designed Yaris in such a manner, so that people enjoy driving it. Along with a number of standard features, there are also(not needed) many optional features also, so that users can customize their cars, according to their taste and preference. All the models are fun to drive and one will not feel uncomfortable, even while driving for long hours. Both the trims ride on standard P175/65 R14 tires with steel wheels and full wheel covers and offer available(not needed) 15-inch steel or aluminum-alloy wheels. The Yaris Sedan with a 100.4- inch wheelbase is a bit longer as compared to the 96.9 inches wheelbase for the Liftback. The Yaris Sedan comes with an overall length of 169.3 inches, while that for the Liftback is 150.6 inches.
There is only one engine for both the body styles. The 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine is equipped with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i). It gives 106 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 103 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,200 RPM. Both models have a standard five-speed manual transmission but however there is an option of four-speed automatic transmission also. The automatic transmission features uphill/downhill shift logic to reduce gear "hunting". This ensures smooth performance while driving in hilly areas as well as plain land. The fuel efficiency of the Yaris models is among the best in the subcompact segment.
The L-arm MacPherson strut front suspension has a 0.9-inch stabilizer bar. A hydroformed torsion beam axle is there in the rear suspension. It provides anti-roll stabilization, so that there is no need for a separate anti-roll bar. The suspension and steering, play important roles for responsive handling and excellent maneuverability, along with a remarkably small 32.6-ft. turning radius.
All models have a number of handling and control technologies, such as:
- Two disc brakes including two ventilated discs
- Spacesaver steel rim internal spare wheel
- Strut front suspension independent with stabilizer bar and coil springs, torsion beam rear suspension rigid with coil springs
If you are looking for a small car that gives an excellent driving experience, the new Toyota Yaris seems a perfect choice in many aspects.
